The seminar was organized in Bursa, the fourth biggest city of Turkey, by Bursa Osmangazi Local Agenda 21, Youth Council. The project (seminar) aimed to put young people into the action in order to gain The Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) in a local perspective. The project helped to increase communication, cooperation and dialog among the young generation.
The seminar was attended by 30 youngsters from nine countries (Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, Sweden, Russia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Turkey).
Moldova was represented by Octavian Mahu, president of the Euro-Atlantic Initiative - Generation 2002 (G-2002) and Vasile Rusnac, president of Institute for Democratic Initiatives.
The objectives of the Seminar Program were:
• To explore the possibilities offered by the European Youth Exchange Program and the spirit of it (mutual understanding, respect, tolerance, dialogue, active citizenship…),
• To increase the awareness of The UN Millennium Developments Goals among youth from all over the world,
• To underline the importance of Intercultural Learning (ICL) in Youth and Exchange Program Youth projects,
• To discover the differences and similarities of different cultures (traditions, religions, beliefs, value, and way of living, combating stereotypes...),
• To support the intercultural exchange between participants,
• To develop the participants’ skills on intercultural learning,
• To promote the development of new youth projects.
During the 4 day seminar there were discussed problems like Gender Equality, Extreme Poverty and Hunger, Child Mortality, Maternal Health, Universal Primary Education, Environmental Sustainability and future collaborations.
A series of meetings were organized with representatives of UNDP, local news papers, NGO’s, and with the Bursa Osmangazi Authorities.
