The Euro-Atlantic Initiative - Generation 2002 (short name G-2002) is a youth non-government organisation, incorporated and operating pursuant to the Moldovan Law on non-profit entities. It was registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova in November 2003. G-2002 as foundng members students at various Chisinau universities and high schools. Most members of G-2002 have previous experience in non-profit sector, specifically in designing, developing and carrying out projects for young people in areas as civic and political education, public debates, election and petition campaigns. Several of them have training in the field of non-government management, undergone both in Moldova and abroad.
The goals of G-2002 are:
- To promote among the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and mainly among youth the principles and the institutions of a pluralist democracy, of a state ruled by law and of the present constitutional regime of the Republic;
- Educate a true civic spirit by spreading among the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and especially among the youth, the knowledge of the fundamental rights and freedoms sanctioned by the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the relevant international instruments, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Convention on Human Rights etc.;
- Include young people into a socially active life by involving them in democratic processes, such as public debates, election and petition campaigns, elections and referenda.
- Promote the integration idea of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union and NATO through campaigns, educational activities, publishing and distributing scientific works and other instructive materials;
- Educate the youth in the spirit of Christian values, of respect towards personal freedom, dignity and of tolerance;
- Promote among the youth information on the structure, history and functions of the main political European bodies, such as the Council of Europe, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, etc;
- Present to the young in an impartial and non-partisan manner with information on main political doctrines and parties in the Republic of Moldova, as well as on world and European political movements;
- Promote the concept of local autonomy, strengthen the local public authorities and stimulate co-operation among communities, at regional and European level;
- Participate, along with professional and cultural unions, as well as other non-governmental entities in the development and evaluation of drafted normative acts;
- Inform the society on the problems of young people, develop and implement programmes that would render the public opinion, as well as the political class upon the problems the youth faces;
- Create and maintain collaboration with youth organizations from other countries in elaboration and implementation of common activities that promote tolerance, understanding and respect between nations;
- Develop and support youth programmes aimed at fighting drug consumption, crime and other social vices that the modern society faces today;
- Develop and participate in programmes and activities related to environment protection and rehabilitation of endangered ecosystems.
